Children’s RE
Children’s Religious Education
Our children’s religious education program provides Sunday morning classes for children from pre-school through high school, as well as a staffed nursery for children aged 2 and younger.
We support and nurture the spiritual growth of our youth and our volunteer teachers through worship, fellowship, service to others, and structured classroom learning experiences. To ensure that children are exposed to both Unitarian Universalism and other religious paths, our RE curriculum is divided into two themes that rotate bi-annually. Strand A focuses on the UU Principles and Strand B focuses on World Religions.
It is important that our youth see themselves as active and valued members of the church community. Each month we take a Sunday off from regular classes and hold a Children’s Worship Service or Intergenerational Service. The church year runs from late August to May. During the summer months, members of the congregation volunteer to share their time and talent with our children as a whole group on Sunday mornings. Any questions about the RE program can be directed to the Coordinator of Religious Education, Marla Johnson or the RE Committee Chair, Dianne Roberts.

Children’s Worship Service
Children’s Worship Service is a time when all ages of Religious Education students come together as a community. This occurs once a month during the church year and each service has a theme such as “Winter Religious Celebrations”. Adult members of the congregation are sometimes invited to coordinate the service or the CRE leads the service. The usual components of such a service include readings or stories, art activities or projects, snacks and a group game. Older students help younger children and there is often singing or poetry recited together. These are special times that foster a sense of shared values among the larger group of children at the ALUUC.
